In the Matter of Customer Service: BENCHMARK INJURY LAW vs. ALL THE REST

Italy MotoI recently went on a trip to Italy. It was amazing. However, I had very significant challenges with the airline travel. My flight from LAX to San Francisco was delayed, which caused me to miss my connecting flight from San Francisco to Rome. What a pain. It gets worse.

I had paid to upgrade Amy and I to United’s Polaris class, thinking it would be a nice treat to stretch out on the 10-hour flight to Rome. We – blissfully ignorant – had arrived at LAX thinking we’d have a luxurious flight to Rome…

Instead, we were rebooked on another flight, and I was put in the back of the plane, in a middle seat. Amy was seated a few rows up. We further learned that the agent who booked the new flight failed to ensure that my bag was transferred to the new flight. So, my bag went up to San Francisco, and I was without a bag for the first four days of my trip.

Why am I telling you this story? This story perfectly shows the point I want to make in this article.

After this debacle, United offered no apologies, made no gestures to correct the harm it caused me, and worse still, had I not called and made a stink, would not even have refunded me the several thousand dollar difference in the first class tickets I purchased, but never received! United did not care about me notwithstanding that I am a loyal United customer.

How many of you have examples like this? Airline travel aside, I am sure there are countless examples of the atrocities caused to you by businesses and service providers who do not prioritize customer service, or even worse, do not value you at all.
